Recognizing Employees in the New Normal

As states begin to "reopen," businesses are realizing that going back to the way things were is not happening any time soon.

With social distancing restrictions, many office workers will continue to work remotely and those that do work on-site will have staggered shifts, limited interactions in public traffic areas, distanced lunch/break room accommodations and more. Social interactions that we took for granted prior to COVID-19 no longer occur. This new normal is isolating, stressful and often frustrating (like when the internet goes down, or you have been called away from your work station for the 100th time to "go wash your hands").

One way that companies can fight back and show their employees that they understand and appreciate them is through employee recognition. Traditional recognition programs like years of service, peer-to-peer, career level and sales achievements are more important than ever. Also, just recognizing and acknowledging the struggles employees are going through gives everyone a much needed lift.

Since we can't physically meet to present awards like we used to, the type of award given becomes even more important. One award type that resonates particularly well in this environment is custom jewelry. Unlike any other award type, jewelry goes with the wearer everywhere they go. It is a constant reminder that their company values and appreciates them. In addition, custom jewelry awards cannot be bought - only earned.

Some great opportunities for employee recognition include:

Years of Service - This type of recognition is the most widely used by companies. Employers might want to consider recognizing each employee on their company anniversary date - vs. waiting to recognize staff only once a year - as holiday parties and full-company meetings may not be taking place for a while.

Peer-to-Peer Recognition - This recognition pulls in all employees - both for recognizing and receiving acknowledgement for going above and beyond.

Career Level and Sales Achievements - Reaching new career levels and exceeding sales goals is even more impressive in this new age we are in. Don't miss an opportunity to celebrate these accomplishments.Misc COVID Awareness Pins

Essential Worker Acknowledgement - Just getting your job done day to day is often truly a feat in itself - overcoming new safety protocols, adjusting to working remotely, etc. Recognizing employees for their extra efforts can really uplift and engage them.

Don't let the day-to-day get in the way of recognizing your most important resources - the human ones. Show them you care with awards that are unique and close to their heart. Talk with your Dion Account Manager about how to show your customers why employee recognition is even more important than ever before.
